Article by Allaric Saltzman
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole, observed Roger Caras. Dogs indeed, are human beings best friends. But for a dog to be a true friend of man, it needs training. Training makes perfection; and in this case, dogs are perfected to play the role of a human companion. We need certain tools to provide that sort of training and dog training collars are wonderful and effective tools. In this article, we will identify the purpose of the dog training collar and its types. A dog collar in general is a piece of material (of leather, plastic, fiber or any other dogs skin friendly material) that is put around the neck of a dog and is used for controlling the dog as they provide a handle for grabbing. Collars are often used in conjunction with a leash. Dog collars too serve the purpose of identification and are fashionable too. Training Collars are useful for controlling a dog manually. Dog training collars are the most common form of directing and teaching dogs and several types of collars are used for the purposes of training dogs. Each training collar has its own set of advantages and disadvantages which trainers might consider before using a select one. Dog training collars come in a variety of types and sizes. When you want to train your dog, youll want a strong collar that goes well with a sturdy leash, so you can keep your pet under control without hurting him too much. Therefore, it must also be one that fits around your dogs neck comfortably. Taking down the measurements of your dog, especially the area of his neck and head, with a measuring tape before going off to buy, would be wise. There are also several types of dog training collars. The Flat collars are used to train dogs on the leash using a buckle or quick-release collar. The Slip collars are also called as choke collars and are a lengthy chain rope with rings at either end such that the collar can be formed into a loop around the top of the dog s neck, just behind the ears and the the ring which connects to the leash goes over the back of the dog s neck. Using such choke collars, a quick jerk with an immediate release, is used to coerce the dog into a heel position. The Prong collar or pinch collars are a series of chain links with blunted open ends turned towards the dog s neck. The design of the prong collar is such that it has a limited circumference and have a limit on how far they can constrict on a dog s neck. The shock collars are electronic training collars and are called e-collars. This e-collar produces a static pulse stimulation at varying degrees of intensity and duration to the dog via a small transmitter incorporated into a dog collar. By opting for the right type of the training collar, the dogs can be trained to be true companions of human beings. A properly trained dog with a right training collar will fit the saying by Edith Wharton, My little dog, a heartbeat at my feet.
